Once a bit of a restaurant wasteland, King’s Cross has really upped its game in terms of nightlife since the unveiling of Granary Square. The latest popular chain to head to N1, following in the footsteps of Dishoom, Caravan and (god help us) Jamie Oliver’s new HQ, is “wine lover’s heaven” Vinoteca.
Our reporters have long extolled the virtues of these “creative” and “sensibly priced” bars, the only caveat being their often “cramped” interiors. Well that shouldn’t be a problem at Vinoteca, One Pancras Square, the chain’s fifth and largest restaurant to date.
Opening on the 10th anniversary of their first site, launched in Farringdon in 2005, the all-day Vinoteca N1 will have a 90-cover dining room, a 30-seater outdoor terrace and a wine shop selling 250 different bottles. Early birds can grab 50% off food and drink at the restaurant’s soft launch 10-19 March, sign up here to find out more.
Kieren Steinborn (previously at Alain Ducasse and Thackeray’s) heads up the kitchen.
On the breakfast menu: prunes with orange compote and muesli with ginger wine-soaked raisins; coddled eggs or grilled manx kipper with mustard butter & lemon. There will also be a selection of ‘breakfast wines’ which range from low to no alcohol, alongside champagne and moscato. The bar serves a £1 espresso as well as a selection of freshly baked pastries and homemade cakes.
