Mere mortals may soon be able to bag a table at the smoking hot Chiltern Firehouse as the Marylebone restaurant is now open for breakfast and lunch. There’s been a lot of conjecture as to when (and if) Nuno Mendes might extend his menu to include anything other than dinner, so now let us all collectively breathe a sigh of relief.
The hotel restaurant (in the London outpost of NYC hotelier André Balazs) is now open for weekday breakfast (8am-10.30am) and lunch (noon-2.30pm). And they are actually taking bookings!
Diners can even request a spot in the 50-cover courtyard and dine al fresco. The courtyard (the scene of many a celeb sighting) is surrounded by plants and flowers and has an outdoor fireplace for when the weather gets chilly.
Breakfast dishes (£9-12) include: steamed egg whites Chawanmushi mushrooms, and greens; smoked salmon, poached eggs and herbed potato cakes; spiced crab omelette tumeric, potatoes & chervil, as well as pancakes, cereals, pastries and juices.
Lunch starters (£12-14) include: sea trout crudo yellow mole, coriander; heirloom tomatoes, burrata, basil and nut crisp and green and white asparagus chervil with brown butter. For mains (£17-29) there’s dishes like: mushroom tartine girolles, swiss chard & goat’s curd; monkfish cooked over pine puffed barley with fennel and sirloin steak grilled mushrooms, chimichurri & onion rings.
The lunch menu also offers the (now famous) Firehouse chicken caesar salad.
