Morgans Hotel Group – named after the New York boutique hotel established by the legendary Ian (Studio 54) Schrager 30 years ago – has launched its first Mondrian hotel outside the US.
Where? London, of course. The Mondrian London arrived at Sea Containers House on the South Bank in August, with its restaurant opening on 30 September. The Sea Containers restaurant is helmed by New York chef Seamus Mullen, who launched his first solo restaurant, Tertulia, in Manhattan in 2011 and went on to open tapas bar El Colmado in 2014.

The South Bank restaurant apparently evokes the ‘Golden Age of Transatlantic Travel’, sourcing produce from neighbouring Borough Market to create a ‘best of Britain and America’ menu. Adjoining the new restaurant is the Dandelyan cocktail bar, overseen by Ryan Chetiyawardana (Mr Lyan). Chetiyawardana’s cool credentials include having recently opened bars both in New York (at the Hudson Hotel) and White Lyan in our own Hoxton.
