Mexican celebrity chef Martha Ortiz is to open a restaurant at the InterContinental Hotel in Park Lane next spring.
Dulce Patria, her Mexico City venture, is regarded as one of the most exciting restaurants in Latin America, combining research into historical Mexican gastronomy with creative modern twists.
The Mayfair venue will be her first beyond Dulce Patria, and is billed as the first fine-dining representative of the country in London, where Mexican cooking is usually presented as cantina or street food.
Ortiz established herself initially as a food writer, and has written eight books on regional Mexican cuisine as well as appearing regularly on the television show Top Chef Mexico. Her mother, Martha Chapa, is a well-known artist and food-writer.
The InterContinental also hosts Theo Randall’s prominent Italian restaurant. The new venue will have its own street entrance.
