Ottolenghi co-founder Noam Bar plans to launch a new Covent Garden venture serving food inspired by Middle Eastern market stalls and street food. Sesame opens in Garrick Street in April.

On the menu: all the usual Mediterranean suspects like pittas and flat breads filled with grilled meats, veg and homemade tahini. In the grand tradition of Ottolenghi’s “innovative” cafés, with their “unbelievable variety of salads” there will of course be an emphasis on salad dishes.

The restaurant group, founded by celeb chef Yotam Ottolenghi and his partner Bar, is experiencing a pretty busy year with expansion to a fifth café in Artillery Passage, just off Spitalfields Market, at the end of March, followed by Sesame in April.
