Regent Street’s night-club-style Spanish rooftop operation aqua nueva reopens on Monday (15 June) with a new look and menu. The redesign was orchestrated by Robert Angell while head chef Alberto Hernandez has created a selection of small plates and Spanish dishes.
The interior boasts intricate black and white mosaic floors, a copper-coloured vaulted ceiling (designed to imitate the inside of the renowned sherry casks of Jerez), banquette seating and an open kitchen. On the menu: Marinated crab salad with green apple; red mullet fillet with aioli, black ink rice parcels; deep-fried monte Enebro cheese, confit beetroot, liquorice; and confit crispy pork & langoustines with potato purée and crispy pork cheek.
A Spanish-inspired cocktail list and range of tapas (like lobster croquettes and salt cod fritters) will be served at the central bar and can be enjoyed on their renowned terrace. Head there during the good weather and try a summer collection of Gin Tonica.
In recent years the restaurant hasn’t inspired a tremendous amount of reviews in our annual survey – perhaps due to the fact that though the food can be good service sometimes didn’t measure up. Let’s hope a sprucing up and a menu shake up will help improve aqua nueva’s rating in next year’s survey.
