Anna Hansen will bring her inventive fusion cuisine to the City in July with a second Modern Pantry opening in Finsbury Square. The venue will feature a tapas bar, restaurant and private dining room all housed within a rather handsome Georgian building.
Heading up the kitchen will be chef Rob McLeary, a protégé of Hansen’s since 2008. On the tapas bar menu: Smoked cassava & fenugreek croquettes, quince aioli; dhansak spiced rose veal mince omelette, chopped herbs, crispy shallots; and Morcilla mole, salted cocoa nib hen egg, spiced apple relish.
The restaurant on the other hand will serve dishes like: Confit duck leg, anise marinated black fig, pickled pink onion & grilled endive; and seared diver caught scallop, burnt shallot puree, ponzu butter and caramelised shallot-dusted wild rice.
Hansen’s original Modern Pantry restaurant in Clerkenwell divides critics with its off-the-wall combinations. Some say its just downright “peculiar”, whereas supporters prefer to see it as “never dull”.
