A South London chef has launched Dusty’s Deli, a New York-inspired food concept based at Mercato Metropoltano in Elephant & Castle.
The Jewish-style bagel shop focuses on the classics and includes delicate low salt cured beef brisket in bread sourced from London’s famous Beigel Bake on Brick Lane, and a traditional Reuben sandwich with salt beef, melted emmanthal cheese, pickles, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing.
There is also a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel drizzled with lemon, dill oil, and topped with chives. The ‘green bagel’, a vegan option, comes with avocado, crispy shallots, sweet pickled shallots, and Russian dressing.
It is a step away from the Italian cooking the chef, who asked not to be named, has made his name doing, but he said it has “always been a dream” to open a bagel shop.
“I love the simplicity of it – it’s delicious,” he told Harden’s.
The shop opened last month in Elephant & Castle’s bustling Mercato food hall. It was originally called Fazzy Snacks but changed its name.
