Danny Meyer’s Covent Garden venture Shake Shack divides critics, but love it or loathe it we’re getting another one. The NYC restaurateur’s Union Square Hospitality Group plan to launch a second London site in mid-2015, this time in Stratford’s expansive Westfield shopping centre.
His marketeers say this Shack “will build on the success of the original” – which according to fans who took part in this year’s survey includes “stonking” burgers and “amazing shakes”. However the US-inspired joint doesn’t do much better than Byron when it comes to ratings for food, service and atmosphere.
On the menu: Angus beef burgers, griddle-crisp flat-top dogs, fresh-made frozen custard, crinkle cut fries, craft beer and wine. Plus Shake Shack’s trademarked specialities the ShackBurger®, SmokeShackâ„¢, ‘Shroom Burger and Shack-cago Dog.
The interiors, as is de rigueur, are mostly made from reclaimed materials – including retired rooftop water towers from Manhattan.
