Queen of cupcakes and afternoon tea Bea Vo (Bea’s of Bloomsbury) branched out into American diner fare last year when she opened Stax in Carnaby Street’s Kingly Court. Now the restaurateur has announced a second US-inspired burger and diner joint Boondocks, slated to arrive this spring just behind Moorfields Eye Hospital in Shoreditch.
The new site has a 70-cover dining room, as well as a dedicated takeaway counter and an events space accommodating up to 100 people. Boondocks will expand on Stax’s menu, bringing back favourites like the Blooming Onion and introducing new dishes that riff on Deep South cooking.
Apart from burgers and chicken and waffles, new menu items will include: Chicken fried steak; buttermilk biscuit sandwiches; smothered chicken; and peach cobbler. The takeaway counter will also feature American-style bakery items like monkey bread, cinnamon buns, fruit pies and doughnuts. All available for ordering online and pickup/delivery.
Open seven days a week from midday-midnight, Boondocks will also revive the brunch from Bea’s Diner at Maltby Street on Saturdays and Sundays (9 am-2 pm) and the events space will host indoor cinema nights with chili cheese hotdogs on offer.
