The Barbary is to open a new flagship on Westbourne Grove in Notting Hill in September. Inspired by the cooking of North Africa, the original was launched by Zoë and Layo Paskin in Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden, eight years ago, and was followed by The Barbary Next Door.
The new venue, formerly the Maddox Gallery, is considerably larger than the first two, with booths as well as a counter for eating, and a separate cocktail bar. There will also be a bigger and grander wine list, with 250 bottles headed by first-growth Latour and Krug.
The original venue earns a 5/5 food rating in the 2024 Harden’s guide, where it is described as “stunning in every respect – tiny, dark, smoky and cool – a superb place whey they really make use of the counter service to engage you in the cooking“.
The Paskin siblings are also behind The Palomar and Evelyn’s Table. Layo started out as a DJ, and went on to run nightclubs.
