London’s Theatreland will have a new restaurant next week with the opening of Cafe Kitty, from the Kitty Fisher’s group. It is part of the new Underbelly Boulevard in Soho, the first permanent venue from cabaret and festival outfit Underbelly.
Kitty Fisher’s was one of the hottest restaurants in London when it opened in Mayfair’s Shepherd Market in 2014, and followed that success with the opening of Cora Pearl in Covent Garden four years later.
The partnership at the Boulevard is part of a wider trend of cultural venues including theatres and museums linking up with established culinary talents in preference to doing their own in-house catering. Examples range from José Pizarro at the Royal Academy and Richard Corrigan at the National Portrait Gallery to Forza Wine and the Marksman team at the National Theatre.
One particularly useful feature for Underbelly Boulevard audiences is that the set meal (2 courses for £28, 3 for £32) is available both pre-show (5-6.30pm) and post-show (9.30-10).
There is also a full à la carte menu starring ‘Swaledale Yorkshire Wing Rib & Green Peppercorn Sauce with Fries & Kitty’s Salad‘ (for £80, probably to share) – surely a close relation to the “belted Galloway wing rib and cosmic crispy fries” recommended in this year’s Harden’s Guide as the best dish at Kitty Fisher’s in Mayfair.
Cafe Kitty opens in Walker’s Court, Soho, next Tuesday, October 17.
