London’s first new West End theatre for 50 years opens tomorrow (15 October), which should increase footfall in the centre of the city still suffering from the ravages of the pandemic. The Soho Place theatre – or @sohoplace as owners Nimax rather irritatingly prefer it to be known – will have a 70-cover restaurant called Stars, with a central bar seating another 25.
The theatre is part of the new development zone on the northern edge of Soho, by the new Tottenham Court Road tube station on the south side of Oxford Street.
Stars, which opens on Tuesday next week (18 October) in the ground floor of the theatre, will have a menu by head chef Constantin Apostu, formerly of the Standard Hotel in King’s Cross, including dishes such as cauliflower & Stilton croquettes with piquillo ketchup; English burrata & figs, miso & smoked oil; crispy skin cod, braised quinoa trio and beurre blanc; pumpkin ravioli with spinach, Parmesan foam and Aleppo pepper; corn-fed chicken breast with truffled chanterelles; and Basque cheesecake with Earl Grey infusion.
Needless to say, there will be a pre-theatre offering, too, at £20 for two courses or £25 for three. The wine list will run to 60 bottles, and there will be plenty of cocktails on offer.
