An ambitious new restaurant serving a menu of “micro-seasonal” dishes opened this week in an 18th-century baroque mansion hidden among the high-rise modern buildings of Hammersmith roundabout, a few steps from the bus and tube stations.
Cellar occupies the ground floor and terrace of grade II listed Bradmore House, which was transformed three years ago into a west London private members’ club, Kindred. The restaurant is part of the same business but is open to non-members, serving breakfast, brunch and an all-day menu every day except Sunday.
The menu is under the direction of chef Andrew Clarke, fresh from opening Acme Fire Cult in Dalston earlier this month. His track record includes stints at St Leonards and Brunswick House in Vauxhall – coincidentally another historic mansion flanked by a multi-lane gyratory system.
Kindred founder Anna Anderson said: “For me, a city lifestyle appeals most when you find those special, local spots that really seem to get under your skin. Cellar is designed to be just that; a gathering place that restores and delights.”
Dishes listed on the opening week’s menu include ox-cheek puffs with prune and tamarind ketchup; Korean spiced Dexter beef tartare; home-cured chalk-stream trout; and celeriac schnitzel with cavolo nero, wild mushrooms and wild garlic butter.
