Richmond will see two new riverside restaurants opening in the coming months, as central London-based hospitality brands target the city’s wealthier suburbs for expansion.
Aussie brunch specialist Daisy Green is the first out of the traps, launching Peggy Jean (pictured) in a restored barge on 27 July, followed by Mayfair celebrity-magnet fish specialist Scott’s in the autumn.
Formerly owned by Jesus College, Oxford, Peggy Jean (pictured) is moored at Richmond Riverside Green and features two Gozney clay ovens which will dispense barbecued steaks, fish and seafood along with pizza and an Australian beach-bar vibe. It is the 10th venue from Daisy Green, founded 10 years ago by Prue Freeman, but the first outside the central London zone bounded by Paddington and Victoria stations.
Scott’s has taken over the former Revolution Bar site over two storeys, and will feature a dining room dominated by a marble-topped Champagne and oyster bar. Upstairs will host a DJ bar, signalling a search for a younger clientele than the Mayfair original, a traditional fixture of the capital’s dining scene since the 1850s. It is the first spinoff from Scott’s, which is now part of Caprice Holdings, whose owner Richard Caring has spun a growing chain out The Ivy.
