Heinz Beck, the man behind three Michelin-starred sensation La Pergola in Rome, brings some of his Italian flair to that quintessentially British London landmark, Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair. Beck at Brown’s promises a much more casual (and affordable) offering with a menu of classic Italian dishes using seasonal, British ingredients devised by Beck and his head chef Heros de Agostinis (though mainly cooked by the latter).
Beck at Brown’s opened this week (16 April), marking the Italian chef’s return to London, he also ran Apsleys restaurant at the Lanesborough prior to its closure for refurbishment in December 2013.
The menu is divided into insalate and antipasti, primi and zuppe, pesce, carne and dolci, with some of Beck’s signature dishes, like his fagottelli alla carbonara, a feature.
Other dishes include: Dressed crab with grilled romain lettuce and wild herbs; Aged Rhug estate striploin with truffle mash & rosemary sauce; a red mullet ‘sandwich’ with black olive and tarragon, grilled black cod with a ‘nduja crust’, red peppers and cucumber as well as spaghetti cacio e pepe with lime-marinated langoustine; an ever-changing formaggi dal carrello, featuring a selection of British and Italian cheeses, served with dried fruits; tiramisu affogato, tarta al cioccolato and sorrento lemon cheesecake.
