A new all-day British brasserie opens in London’s Theatreland next Wednesday. St Martin’s House occupies a site at the top of St Martin’s Lane near Seven Dials in Covent Garden, formerly occupied by Tredwell’s (RIP).
The three-storey venue is open every day of the week and has a menu of classic British dishes including Cornish scallops (pictured), beer-battered hake and steak pie, backed up with super-sized steaks for sharing. Lunch and
pre-theatre dining are catered for with a good-value set menu.
St Martin’s House has been developed by Aspirational Brands, headed by Sheffield-based Adam Howitt, as part of an ambitious expansion plan that could see the company tripling in size to more than 100 sites in the next four years. Its brands include the Japanese Canteen, Lemongrass and the Handmade Burger Co, and last year it opened Cheshire House Bar & Grill in Knutsford and Recardo’s in Hale, both in Cheshire. It has already road-tested the “house” concept with Tatton House in Knutsford, although Howitt insists they are not cookie-cutter operations.
“We are incredibly proud of our growth across the UK over the last two years. We are especially proud of our ability to give every venue its own identity. We do not believe in churning out chain restaurants; we wish for all of our restaurants to have a unique feel and ambience. By using our extensive hospitality experience, along with thorough research into the local area, we tailor our restaurants to suit the customer demographic whilst maintaining the brands core standards and ethos”
Tredwell’s was launched in 2014 by Marcus Wareing before being taken over by its head chef, Chantelle Nicholson, who closed it down last year. Her new venture Apricity opens in Duke Street, Mayfair, next month.
