A new café-cum-wine-bar focused on light lunches and seasonal plates that pair well with a glass of vino, has opened not far from Hipster (sorry, we mean Hackney!) Central station. Legs launched on 19 May in Morning Lane.
Beneath the restaurant is a ‘makers’ basement’, where the team and selected partners distill vermouth for the bar, cure meats, pickle veg and even mold ceramics for the tables upstairs. Founded by chef Magnus Reid (founder of CREAM and former Rooftop Café) and Andy Kanter, Legs offers locals a neighbourhood haunt in which to enjoy wine from small, independent producers, alongside affordable food. The name of course derives from oenophile terminology – legs being the droplets that form on the inside of the wine glass. Let the ‘good legs!’ puns commence.
On the menu: Suckling pig and chilli jam roll; smoked aubergine, couscous, dried fruits; roast cod, marinda tomatoes, citrus; smoked haddock, clams, cured egg yolk; burrata, pickled watermelon, charred tomato; leeks, vinaigrette, hazelnut; uni, lardo, peas, toast; steak tartare, smoked pecans, buttermilk; and camomile granita, roasted oats, milk ice-cream.
