The people behind Zoilo and Casa Malevo have launched what they call ‘London’s first Argentine butcher and wine merchant’. Abasto, nestled in the cosy area estate agents call Connaught Village, also includes a dining room for 16 people and an events space for masterclasses.
Abasto follows several other recent restaurant openings which have a decidedly multi-purpose feel. There’s Hill & Szrok in Hackney, butchers by day, restaurant by night, and the ever-popular Prawn on the Lawn in Islington/Canonbury – a fishmonger and an intimate dining space rolled into one. Perhaps, considering the volatile nature of the restaurant industry, it helps to have more than one string to your bow.
