Veneta, a Venice-inspired restaurant from the Salt Yard group, will be the first food venue to launch in the £400million St James’s Market development behind Piccadilly Circus when it opens its doors on Monday October 24.
It will be the fifth establishment in chef Ben Tish’s 10-year-old Salt Yard group, which is headed by a Fitzrovia flagship praised by the Harden’s Survey for “unusual and excellent” Spanish and Italian tapas.
Veneta will have a raw seafood bar, a cheese and salumi trolley, and a drinks list dominated by northern Italian wines along with unusual vermouths and bitters.
Hot on its heels in St James’s Market, part of the Crown Estate between Haymarket and Regent Street to the south of Piccadilly Circus, will come upmarket Japanese brasserie Anzu from the Tonkotsu group; Aquavit, the offshoot of a widely praised Swedish restaurant in New York; and Ole & Steen, the first international project from a successful Danish bakery chain.
