Josh and Holly Eggleton, the owners of the “lovely” and “scenic” Pony & Trap in Chew Magna, have launched a tearoom and fish café. Salt & Malt opened on 2 March, just a stone’s throw from the family’s lauded country pub.
On the site of a former tea shop, the restaurant now boasts a fish and chip takeaway counter, café, ice cream parlour and a 200-seater terrace overlooking Chew Valley Lake. On the menu: gluten-free fish and chips, fresh mussels and squid, with a focus on local produce.
Chef/patron Josh worked at restaurants like Sicily’s il Mulinazzo, New York institution Chanterelle and French Laundry in California before returning to the UK to open the Pony & Trap. The inn has drawn consistently good reviews in the Harden’s survey since it opened.
