London tapas group Camino has acquired two branches of rival Hispanic operation Ibérica, with the Farringdon bar to be relaunched under its new flag next week and the Victoria branch following suit next month. The remaining three Ibérica branches – in Canary Wharf, Marylebone and Leeds – all closed after the company fell into administration in December.
Meanwhile, Camino continues its expansion with the opening this spring of Pintxiso, a new Basque-only pintxos and drinks bar in Covent Garden piazza, with a menu devised by the group’s Basque-born executive chef, Nacho del Campo.
Both groups were launched during the Noughties tapas boom, Camino in 2007 and Ibérica the following year. Ibérica expanded nationally over the next decade, but ran into difficulties during the covid pandemic when branches in Glasgow and Manchester were closed.
Camino’s flagship is in King’s Cross, where they also have Bar Rioja. There are further Camino branches in Shoreditch and Monument.
