A new deli opened in Goodge Street today (24 November), aiming to bring ‘kosher-style’ food, Ã la NYC, to the capital.
The inspiration behind Delancey & Co. include classic Lower East Side haunts such as the famous Katz Delicatessen – the Big Apple’s spiritual home of salt beef sandwiches and smoked salmon bagels – and Russ & Daughters. The man behind the opening, Londoner Daniel Moosah, has promised to give the traditional fare a contemporary setting, with marble counters and pop art lining the walls.
Moosah, a self described ‘entrepreneur, poker player, hip hop lover and food obsessor’, has apparently spent years back and forth between New York and London, researching traditional Jewish cooking methods.
