A new Italian neighbourhood restaurant has opened on the former site of hip natural wine bar Peg, in Hackney’s Morning Lane. Dalla has been created by Naples-born brothers Gennaro and Gianmarco (ex-Claridge’s) Leone, along with Mitchell Damota, former head chef at P Franco.
Gennaro, who runs the design gallery Spazio Leone in Lower Clapton, has kitted out the interior of the tiny, 25-cover space with smart artisan-made furnishings, while the menu delivers home-style Italian cooking – “rediscovering old recipes in a contemporary setting“.
Gennaro says, “I always wanted to have a place to share all my passions, and have a table with all my friends around it, to share memories. We don’t want it to be trendy, but somewhere you can come back to twice in a week and after 10 years it’ll still be good. A peaceful corner in an area that’s really crazy busy.”
The restaurant is named after the Italian singer-songwriter Lucio Dalla, a favourite of the Leone brothers when they were growing up
