A restaurant dedicated to the wonders of turkey will open (strangely enough) well before Christmas or Thanksgiving in summer 2016 in Shoreditch. Strut & Cluck, arriving on 21 June, will showcase its hero ingredient, free range turkey, with influences from Eastern Mediterranean home cooking as it arrives in Commercial Street.
Turkey has a bit of a reputation for being dry and every Christmas cooks across the land bath and brine their birds to keep it moist before it gets a good roasting. At Strut & Cluck the birds are marinated for 24 hours in the family spice and herb blend, then slow-cooked in a charcoal oven.
Alongside a selection of turkey dishes there will be many vegetarian options available, split into sections Nibbled, Roasted and Tossed; as well as a range of desserts with an eastern Mediterranean twist. To drinks there’s a selection of cocktails and craft beers.
Strut & Cluck gained some serious momentum last year with a residency at Shoreditch House in November 2015, just in time for Thanksgiving. Since then the founders have acquired a permanent site with 75 covers, a large outside terrace for al fresco dining and drinking and a central bar for 12 diners. There is also a private dining room for eight guests.
Strut & Cluck’s free range turkeys are sourced from carefully selected farms in and around East Anglia which practise sustainable farming, feeding the turkeys wheat grown at the farms and using the waste generated to fertilise the soil.
