Duddell’s, the London offshoot of the renowned, Michelin-starred Hong Kong restaurant of the same name, has closed after two years.
In a statement, the restaurant said it was looking for a new Mayfair site for the project. No timeframe was given.
Duddell’s, which closed this week, was housed in St Thomas’ Church in London Bridge and served classic Cantonese dishes and dim sum. Its 2017 opening was one of the most prolific and talked about of the year, and for good reason, it soon transpired. The “hype” was spot on, so said diners.
So many will hope Duddell’s promises of a new opening will ring true. The closure in London Bridge was blamed on the challenges of operating in a Grade II listed building.
Duddell’s said in a statement: “After opening two years ago, Duddell’s London announced its plan to move to a new west end location.
“The closure of the London Bridge space comes as a result of continued planning challenges with the landlord and technical difficulties related to the Grade II listed church, which has prevented Duddell’s from fully realising its authentic Cantonese culinary vision.
“The Duddell’s development team is looking for a new site in Mayfair which will be announced in due course.”
