Chef Tom Cenci is to revamp the public-facing neighbourhood restaurant on the ground floor of fashionable Fitzrovia private membership club Mortimer House next month.
Mortimer House Kitchen will draw on Tom’s family summers spent in Piedmont and on the Amalfi coast, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and family-style dining. The menu starts with a selection of scarpetta (a bread course ‘to scoop’ up sauces), followed by pasta and other Italian classics.
Tom says: “Life in Italy revolves around mealtimes – it’s all about family feasting, preparing fresh ingredients and using the best local produce. I’ve always loved this style of cooking and am excited to welcome people to share this with me and the team this year.”
Tom, who helped launch Duck & Waffle, also runs the kitchen at Nessa in Soho, a sister operation to Mortimer House as part of the Gary Ivesha’s hospitality operation Maslow’s.
Guy commented: “The last year has been a big one for Maslow’s with the opening of 1 WARWICK in Soho and I am so proud of what we have created with Tom at NESSA. He is a hugely creative chef and brilliant leader so I am very excited to extend our partnership to MORTIMER HOUSE KITCHEN.’
The new restaurant, which opens on Monday 5, can accommodate 90 diners, with another 20 in a private conservatory at the back and 45 eating al fresco in warmer weather. It will also serve breakfast in addition to lunch and dinner, with a menu of Italicised plates such as baked eggs on focaccia; n’duja bruschetta with whipped ricotta and poached eggs; and Tuscan beans on toast.
