Clare Smyth and Daniel Boulud double up at the Admiralty

Clare Smyth and Daniel Boulud will each have a restaurant in a new hotel opening next year inside London’s Admiralty Arch. Clare said she was “beyond excited” to share the news this week, following the announcement of the dining options at the Waldorf Astoria that is taking over the Trafalgar Square landmark.

A historic setting, a new chapter, and something truly unforgettable to come – stay tuned,” she said in a social media post.

Clare’s Notting Hill restaurant Core has been rated London’s top gastronomic experience in the Harden’s survey every year for the past five years. One of the most highly regarded female chefs in the world, she currently has just one other restaurant – Oncore in Sydney.

For French-born, New York-based Daniel Boulud, the Admiralty Arch restaurant will mark a return to London after a six-year interlude. His Bar Boulud ran for a decade at the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge.

One restaurant will occupy the space directly above the building’s triple arches, with views directly along the Mall to Buckingham Palace. The other will have have a rooftop perch with terrace – and equally spectacular views. It has yet to been revealed which chef gets which.

The Grade I-listed building dates from 1912 and provided accommodation for the First Sea Lord along with various government offices for a century. In 2012 the government sold a 125-year lease for £60million.
