The folks behind London’s Salt Yard Group (Opera Tavern, Salt Yard, Dehesa, Ember Yard) are the latest restaurateurs to snap up a space in Haymarket’s upcoming St James’s Market development. Venetian-inspired restaurant Veneta will sit alongside venues from Duck & Waffle and NYC’s Nordic fine dining establishment Aquavit.
Veneta will boast 110-covers, combining classic bar-counter seating, banquette booths and tables, and promises ‘a touch of contemporary glamour inspired by Venice from a bygone era’. Reached by handcrafted staircase, the restaurant also features a mezzanine seating level that can be booked for exclusive hire, and an extensive outdoor terrace in the pedestrianised St James’s Market.
Guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at Veneta, or simply stop by for a restorative glass of prosecco.
Overseen by chef director Ben Tish, and executed by head chef Jamie Thickett (formerly of Opera Tavern), the menu will be inspired by classic Venetian dishes and cooking techniques, and will showcase amazing produce from the region. A classic raw bar will offer a selection of seasonal British and Venetian seafood. Artisan charcuterie and cheeses from the Veneto region will be served from a handmade trolley.
The wine list will pay homage to one of the oldest wine heritages in the world, featuring exclusively wines from Northern Italy.
