Sunda Kitchen, a new Southeast Asian restaurant and cocktail bar, opened in Covent Garden this week from Jamie Younger, co-owner of Thai food pioneer the Begging Bowl in Peckham.
Occupying the former site of Wahlburgers in James Street, Sunda has a menu of snacks and sharing plates including Thai KFC cauliflower with tamarind mayo, Malaysian red chicken curry, Vietnamese-style whole fried seabass with mango salad and Indonesian sambak oelek aubergine.
Younger has linked up for the project with Adam Papa and Grant Neave of Twenty Light Spirits, who have created a list of batch-made cocktails aimed at matching the quality of Papa’s Happiness Forgets high-end cocktail bar in Shoreditch. Drinks include a Thai Negroni made with lemongrass gin and coconut Campari, and a bubble tea Bellini with lychee ‘caviar’.
