Restaurant group Genji UK today (27 June) launches Sushi and Robata on the first floor of Kensington’s Whole Foods Market. The Japanese-style barbecue restaurant, also specialising in sushi as the name might suggest, is set within the 1930s Barkers Building overlooking Kensington High Street.
The space has been completely renovated with a copper and cobalt colour scheme, nodding to both Japanese culture and the building’s Art Deco grandeur.
Chefs Tsvetan Gerganov and Masa Tanaka, formerly of Feng Sushi and Koya Frith Street respectively, have created a modern menu of Japanese-style barbecue and sushi. Robata and Sushi will serve local, coastal UK fish as standard and mature yellowfin tuna from both the Maldives and the Eastern Pacific that is pole and line-caught or hand-line fished.
The menu is divided into small plates, robata, raw, sushi, dim sum & noodles, bento, and desserts. Dishes include: Crunchy rice salmon tartare; Spicy miso lamb; Tuna tataki with ponzu dressing; Miso Atlantic cod; Spicy beef shumai; Duck and orange soba; Matcha cream puffs; Chocolate spring rolls with coffee dipping sauce; and Yuzu cheesecake.
The drinks list comprises a large tea selection, craft beers, Japanese cocktails, sake and wine.
