A chef couple from Edinburgh have opened their first restaurant, Nàdair, serving a daily-changing five-course set menu that celebrates prime Scottish ingredients. Head chef Alan Keery and pastry chef Sarah Baldry met while working together in the kitchen at one of the city’s leading restaurants, Wedgwood.
The 20-cover Nàdair (Gaelic for ‘nature’), on Roseneath Street in Marchmont, opened quietly last month, with minimal publicity while they “got up and running”.
Alan said: “We’re so proud to open our first restaurant together, Nàdair, in the city where we met. It’s been a long time in the making, and we’re really looking forward to working together to showcase the best produce that Scotland’s larder has to offer.”
Sarah added: “We’re working with the best local suppliers and using our restaurant as a platform to show the people of Edinburgh the real quality of ingredients we have available to us in Scotland. We’ve had such a wonderful reception from our neighbours in Marchmont, and had lots of locals visit us for lunch and dinner – we really feel part of the community already.”
The drinks menu focuses mainly on organic wines and forage-based cocktails using seasonal in-house infusions, such as a woodruff old fashioned or a grapefruit and pine martini.
Nàdair is open for dinner Wednesday to Saturday, costing £65 for 5 courses (plus £45 for paired wines), and for lunch on Saturday and Sunday at £25 for 2 courses or £30 for 3 courses.
