Anton Edelmann, former head chef at the Savoy, is among the chefs listed on a new website who will cook private dinners in clients’ homes.
The site, eHo Chef, has been launched by restaurateur Tetsuro Hama, founder of So Restaurant in Soho, to make hiring a private chef more affordable.
Prices range from £10 a head for puff-pastry with sundried tomato and pumpkin snacks to £125 a head for Edelmann’s “Best Mates Supper” of six courses, including lobster tortellini and beef fillet.
Both professional chefs and enthusiastic amateurs are listed, with cuisines ranging from modern British and Italian to Japanese, Icelandic and Caribbean. The service is limited to London at the moment, but will spread if it proves successful.
The chef is responsible for all ingredients and preparation, while the client provides cutlery, crockery and drinks. The website takes 18% commission from the chef’s fee, 5% of which goes to the Project Satori charity to help an estimated 100,000 Londoners who live in food poverty.
