Upscale South African all-day café Tashas opens its first European branch next month, in the Battersea Power Station development overlooking the River Thames.
Natasha Sideris launched the original Tashas in Johannesburg in 2005, and now has 15 branches across South Africa and another six in the UEA. The brand prides itself on snazzy interior design and brilliant service, and the 150-cover Battersea branch has a large terrace for outdoor dining when the weather suits.
The menu combines tried-and-tested Tashas classics – including ‘cornflake pork schnitzel’, smoked salmon in ‘green goddess’ dressing and ‘Dr Paw Paw”, papaya with yogurt, chopped almonds and honey – as well as local adaptations.
Drinks include the ‘Fynbos G&T’ using amber gin from South Africa’s Inverroche Distillery and the ‘Battersea Fashioned’ – bourbon washed in cocoa butter with Demerara sugar and bitters.
Tashas launches on Tuesday 7 November at 3 Prospect Way, London SW11 8BH. It will be open every day from 7.30am to 10pm (Sun-Wed) or 11pm (Thurs-Sat).
