Slow Food Week, surely one of the world’s most enjoyable pressure-group campaigns, kicks off on Saturday (October 1) and can be celebrated in gastronomic style at some of Britain’s best restaurants.
High-profile chef supporters include Raymond Blanc of Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons near Oxford and London’s Richard Corrigan, Brett Graham (The Ledbury) and Angela Hartnett (Murano).
The week was launched by Slow Food UK chairman Shane Holland (pictured centre) and restaurateur Charles Boyd (centre left) with dinner at Boyd’s Grill and Wine Bar off Trafalgar Square.
Executive chef Nate Brewster has created a Slow Food Week menu for Boyd’s using Slow Food’s “Ark of Taste” index of endangered British foods, including Highland venison, heritage carrots and traditional apple varieties. On Wednesday October 5, Boyd’s will host a producer dinner with James Swift of Trealy Farm in Monmouthshire, featuring charcuterie made from his traditional breed Welsh black pigs.
