The kitchen at Jamavar London, an upmarket Indian restaurant opening in Mount Street, Mayfair in mid-November, will be headed by Rohit Ghai, formerly of Gymkhana – a good indication that it will be more than simply an outpost of a successful international brand.
There are five branches in India, where Jamavar is the signature restaurant of the ultra-luxury Leela Palaces hotel and resort chain run by Dinesh Nair and his daughter Samyukta. The London opening will be the first outside India.
Until earlier this year Ghai was head chef of the Sethi family’s hit London restaurant group, which includes Hoppers, Trishna and Gymkhana, the latter praised by the Harden’s Survey for “immensely flavourful” and “exquisite” dishes.
