Bringing the beach to Fulham

Spiaggia, a new beach-themed Italian restaurant complete with sun-loungers and seaside cocktails, is coming to the Fulham Road. Not to the bit sometimes called ‘The Beach’, however, but rather to the more downmarket environs of Fulham Broadway. It seems a pity that it is not opening opening till late September/early October. Perhaps owner Mish Haddad is hoping for an Indian summer?

Whatever. Spiaggia, which of course means beach in Italian, will attempt to recreate Italy’s glistening Riviera with a sunny Mediterranean décor of painted timber, sun-beds and vintage arcade games, as well as neon signs telling guests to ‘dive in’ and ‘relax’.

The menu at the 50-cover establishment will include piadinas and flatbreads with a variety of fillings like salami Napoli, Mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, and Provolone cheese and roasted peppers with Borlotti bean and chilli mash. The Bella Donna will offer a sweet twist on the flatbread, featuring Nutella, banana and Baileys. There will also be antipasti, salads, pasta dishes and spiedini (skewers on the grill), complemented by an all-Italian wine list.
