Two new Thai restaurants, split over two floors but under the same ownership, will open at the former Jane Tira on Brewer Street in Soho this December.
Wild Rice and Mamasan, from debutante restaurateurs Pan Serirak and Mike Asavarut, are set to “reinvent Thai food”, according to an announcement. On the ground floor will be Wild Rice (seating 36), which will focus on small sharing plates that “showcase traditional, bold and vibrant Thai flavours, paired with seasonal British ingredients to create reinventions of classic dishes.”
Below, in the basement, diners will find Masmasan (seating 25), “offering street food dishes such as Thai fried chicken and bubble tea alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.” There, the décor will be themed on Chinatown in Bangkok, featuring lanterns and neon signs. Wild Rice will be a more traditional setting of coloured timber and patterned windows.
Mamasan’s menu, inspired by the Yaowarat Thai bars in Bangkok, will launch with the likes of fried chicken with coriander root, garlic and soy sauce, and crispy shallots. There’ll be laab fries covered in chilli, toasted rice and lime, too.
On the ground floor will be a more eclectic, seasonally changing menu:
- Goi pla ceviche – raw seabass, lime, red chilli, fish sauce, toasted rice
- ‘Yum’ chargrilled beef salad – grilled beef, garlic, cherry tomatoes, fish sauce, red chilli, lime
- Pulled chicken leg ‘khao soi’ soup – turmeric, shallot, galangal, coconut
- Plaa salmon – salmon sashimi, chilli, lime leaf, lemongrass, lime
- Thai avocado salad – avocado, courgette, garlic and lime dressing
- Pad Thai woonsen – vermicelli, beansprout, carrot, peanut, tamarind
Both restaurants will open on December 3 for a two-week soft launch period, during which guests will receive 20% off the food bill. Mamasan will be available for takeaway.
